N2CQR's Homebrew gear
The piece of gear in the picture is my version of Doug DeMaw's
"Barebones Superhet," first described in the July 1982 QST. Single
conversion RX with a 3 pole 3.579 (colorburst) IF. Mostly dual gate
MOSFETS. I added a grounded gate FET preamp.
I use this receiver with a
"W1VD" VXO transmitter (described in "QRP Classics"). With 4 watts out and
only about 10 kc to tune I'm working Europe regularly and have gone as far
west as Hawaii (on a dipole ant).
