D104 Microphone MCU 1.69 and earlier

Has anyone connected a preamplified D104 to either the
front or rear panel? Are there any added parts
required?

I have been using the D-104 (with base pre-amp) on my K3 for several weeks with some success. However, there is an issue of which Eric is aware.... Transients produced when the mic switch is pressed cause a delay in the build-up of the audio. A workaround is to increase compression. With compression set at zero there is a problem, otherwise it can take several seconds for the audio to build up. The first few words of an over can thus be missed.

There isn't a problem with the K2; the D-104 works fine.

Width control in SSB

Sometimes the width control allows settings of 1.9/2.1/2.3/2.5/2.7/2.9Khz etc. in USB/LSB and sometimes the settings are 2.0/2.2/2.4/2.6/2.8/3.0Khz etc. It is unknown what causes the K3 to switch between these allowed values. But restoring a configuration with the K3 Utility will restore the values that were in effect.

AB7R responded: This is on the issues list already. The change will be to have 100 Hz steps below 3.0 kHz and 200 Hz steps above that.

THIS IS IN THE CURRENT VERSION BEING TESTED AND WILL BE AVAILABLE IN THE NEXT RELEASE. IT IS WORKING FINE. - AB7R 3/1/08

RX EQ 6

The 6th band of the RX EQ is actually centered at 1600hz and not 1200hz. The other bands seem correct.

Speech Processor

Some feel that the speech processor is a bit "weak" for contesting. AFAIK, Elecraft will be looking into this.

Errata Errata

Errors in Revision C1, November 18, 2007 Owner's Manual not in Errata Rev C1-3, 02/01/08

Pg 29, Data A "the K3’s dual-tone RTTY filter (DTF) can be selected" Invoking DTF while in Data Mode A yields "N/A" on the display and the filter is not active.

Pg 29, PSK D "transmit via DIG 0, ASCII, or the keyer paddle" The Errata notes that PSK D keyer support in unimplemented. ASCII (KY command) support is also unimplemented.

PSK-DIRECT FROM THE CW KEY IS NOW IMPLEMENTED IN VERSION 1.69. YOU MAY FIND YOU NEED TO USE RIT DUE TO A TX OFFSET OF ABOUT -16 HZ FROM THE RECEIVE FREQUENCY. OTHER THAN THIS IT IS WORKING WELL. THE OFFSET WILL BE ADDRESSED SOON. STILL ON THE LIST IS THE ABILITY TO SEND FSK/PSK FROM THE KEY INPUT IN ADDITION TO THE PADDLE INPUT. - AB7R 3/1/08
