A list of feature requests put to Elecraft but not yet implimented (as far as we know).

AM mode improvements
I would like the K3 to incorporate AM synchronous detection and wider, perhaps variable AM IF bandwidths. I hope these two features could enable the K3 to provide wider audio bandwidths, improve audio fidelity and be used for enjoyable listening of AM shortwave broadcast stations. For details on synchronous detection of AM signals, refer to the article written by Mike Gruber, WA1SVF which was published in QEX, September 1992. This is available from the ARRL on-line. -- Shane White, VK5ABQ, 13-April-08
Band Mapping
Can I turn off the 5mHz band, so when I scroll through the bands using the up and down band buttons, it doesn't show up?? We don't have access to this in Australia, and I don't have any real interest in listening in!!

Not as of yet but we do have a feature planned for band mapping that will allow you to choose which bands are available when using the Band UP/DN switch. All bands will still be available via your memories, direct freq entry and CAT commands. --Greg AB7R, 23-Mar-08
Exterior tuner/amp support
An unfortunate thing about the Elecraft rigs is that there is no way to put them in tune mode from an outside line, nor do they generate a signal out when put in tune. This means alot of button pushes to go into and come out of tuning for those of us with an amplifier and external tuner.
I would like to be able to put the K3 in tune mode by changing state of a line or have the K3 change state of one of its lines out.

Single button band changes.
There are no tunable memories, or band stacking registers in the K3 as there are in most other transceivers that have a keypad. As a result, you never get single button band changes, and operating parameters like mode and frequency are never saved to any kind of memory unless several keypresses are made to commit the VFO to a specific memory. In order to most easily facilitate the most basic single button band changes with tunable memories, I suggest this: I would like a setup option to overide the K3 KEYER default action for the front panel keys M1, M2, M3, M4 M4, REC on FIRST PRESS.
TAP M1=160m M2=80m M3=60m M4=40m REC=12m HOLD M1=30m M2=20m M3=17m M4=15m REC=10m
Each TAP or HOLD calls the active VFO register from the last time the VFO was in use. If a contest comes along and want to change the setup back to single press voice keyer or morse keyer, that should also be available.

Front and Rear Mic Selection
The "bias" settings for the Front and Rear mic inputs are independent. I can set "bias" ON for Front and OFF for rear (or visa versa) and as I switch from front to rear mic, the bias stays where I set it for the mic selected. This does not seem to be true for the "H" and "L" parameter. Set Front to "H" and rear is automatically set to "H" - set rear to "L" and front is automatically set to "L" - this parameter (Boost) does not currently seem to be independent. Can this parameter setting be made to follow the selected mic input?

Tx Equalizer
Currently, when one sets the TX EQ for either the Front or Rear mic input, that setting automatically applies to the other input. So if you have very different microphones you may not only have to switch the "Boost" (that's what the built-in "help" banner calls "H" and "L") but you also have to readjust EQ settings. As an example, my K2 Proset requires very different EQ settings than my Shure 444. One is on the front and one is on the back. It sure would be nice to not have to readjust the EQ each time I switch mics. Can the TX EQ setting be made to follow the selected mic input?

I think this is a good suggestion and should apply to Line In audio as well; different TX EQ for FP/RP/Line audio - N1EU
I would like to see maybe TX EQ 1-6 with each able to retain individual mic or other input settings - G3RXQ
Save NOTCH settings at Power Off
For SSB (and maybe CW) operation, please could the NOTCH settings be saved when the radio is powered off ? I use the NOTCH on AUTO most of the time to suppress unwanted heterodynes, and it is a real nuisance to have to reset it after a power cycle.

Mode-based NR gain compensation
SSB signals always drop about 3dB. Even signals SSB with good S/N. How hard it would be to increase AF gain when NR is engaged?

QRP-button needed
I use K3 mainly on two power levels: 100W and 5W. Cranking power up and down is not very convinient. It needs many turns. I would like to see this happen with e.g. those PF-buttons fast and easy.

I agree. Invariably I finish up changing the Compression setting instead.

Notch button
On SSB - When you TAP the NTCH you get the auto-notch function, which works nice.
When you TAP it again, instead of going off, it switches to MANUAL NOTCH - but you cannot adjust it until you HOLD the NTCH button.
Seems to me it should work like this:
Tap NTCH and you get the auto-notch function
Tap NTCH again and it goes off.
Hold NTCH and it goes to MANUAL NOTCH and you can adjust it with VRO B.
Tap NTCH and it goes off.
