Vox, Phones & Speaker bursts - FIXED
- January 5, 2008 - MCU: 1.65, DSP: 1.52 and above.
Manifests itself as bursts of AF on the internal speaker (possibly external speaker if plugged in) when phones are plugged in. Since it needs VOX on and your're getting speaker noise, it often triggers the VOX (regardless of Antivox setting) and you get +ve feedback.
The following configuration is required to reproduce this:
- Some noise or signal on antenna, you don't here this issue if there isn't.
- VOX on
- Phones (or just blank plug) plugged into front or rear connector
- SPKR+PH set to NO
- Filter at any width
- NR set to something high'ish (F2-2)
- Doesn't necessarily require NB, if NR is not causing it, adding NB does.
It appears to be the addition of NR which triggers this and some settings on NR do not, but then if you bring in DSP NB, as that gets more aggressive, it starts triggering the bursts on the speaker again. With the right (wrong) settings, its possible to get this pulsing every 1 or 2 seconds.
I reverted my firmware to MCU 1.58 & DSP 1.48 and the problem has gone away. Unfortunately, so has the controlled TUNE power setting :(
I understand this was fixed previously and has crept back into the codeline. Elecraft are aware and working to resolve it.

THE DSP HAS BEEN CHANGED TO ELIMINATE THIS. IT IS BEING TESTED AND SHOULD SOON BE RELEASED. -- AB7R 1-Mar-08
Appears to be fixed in v1.75+ - certainly in v1.78 -- M0XDF, 23-Mar-08
Filter Settings change with Bands
Say I am on 12M USB. Filter width is set to 2.7. I switch to CW, set filter to 400. Everything is fine. I switch bands to 17M CW by tapping the band down twice fast. Filter is set to 2.7, so I change it to 400. I switch back to 12M, both USB and CW filter settings are correct, I can toggle between the two modes. I then go from 12M USB back to 17M CW by tapping band down twice. The filter on CW is back again to 2.7. Why wouldn't it remember the last setting I had for CW?

Thanks for identifying a way to reproduce this behavior, which had proven elusive. Using your method, I've now found the cause and fixed it, and it'll work correctly in the next firmware release. -- Wayne N6KR, 24-Mar-08
