How should I build my K2 transceiver?
From Zerobeat
Building a K2 transceiver is well documented, if you can read, can follow instructions, and have some time, success will eventually come.
Here are a couple of building strategys:
1. The K2 kit arrives, and the excited builder rips the carton open and dumps the contents on a coffee table. Working through the manual a step at a time the night turns quickly into morning and our builder must leave the project for work and some sleep. Repeat as necessary. At the end of each stage in the construction there is a part or two that needs to be "repositioned" or "relocated" in the box of parts to pass the test. Builder posts "help me!!!" a few times to the refelector. At the end of the project, the builder has a pretty nice radio and a hearty respect for hand winding toroids at 3am. He's probably also had to request from Elecraft for a part or some parts that were not included or used by accident in the wrong place and that may have help things up at times. In the end, however, joy is found and the world is happy.
2. 1. The K2 kit arrives, and the excited builder rips the carton open and dumps the contents on a coffee table with an ESD surface. He carfully identifies each part according to the inventory photo in the back of the K2 manual. Small parts are grouped according to their values ans placed in a baggy with a post it of the actual part id's, as a part is used it will be crossed off the list in the baggy. After all of the parts are located and labeled, the builder can contact Elecraft for any possible missing parts up front, before he needs them. Construction goes along fine, because the builder has a bright light and at least a 2X power magnifer. Any parts that are mis-installed are clipped off the board and thrown away, Elecraft will have more. Then the parts fragments are easily removed from the double plated through holes. The result is a another great kit and a little more time with it having fun!
